How is the appointment system changing?
From Tuesday 8th July, we will be changing the way same day/urgent appointments are booked. This follows the successful implementation of triage for non-urgent appointments.
For problems considered urgent, you will now be requested to submit an online request via our website, using the Contact Us online panel on the homepage or the NHS App. All forms will be reviewed by a GP, who may then offer you an on the day or book ahead appointment.
Please note: Whether you are looking to book an urgent or non-urgent appointment, the Doctor needs to assess and triage your online request first.
The form is very short and easy to complete. This has been extensively and successfully used in practice and by our patients over the past 12 months. It involves a few simple questions. Anyone who cannot complete the form due to lack of IT or internet can ask a family member/friend to help them. If this is not possible, you can ring the practice, so our staff can support you completing the form online. Please note that there may be a delay doing this at busy times, so completing the form yourself or with help from a family member, will allow us to help you more quickly.
Why are we changing the system?
We are aware there is a nationwide problem accessing GP Appointments. Our move to triage 12 months ago has addressed some of these issues but there is more we can do! Our data tells us that that many of the appointments we see on the day are not urgent. The use of triage forms allows the practice to use our clinical resource in the most effective way and allows patients to have direct access to GP advice for all problems.
These requests are better triaged by a GP, who can ensure that the patient sees the right person at the right time. Not only does this make care better, it will further reduce the “early morning rush” on the phone and it is more convenient for patients to be able to get the most appropriate care.
We appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this period of transition.
